Moonfishcafe’s “ARK ON ATITLAN” has been developing and promoting sustainability on lake Atitlan for twenty years. We offer lectures, tours, and courses on sustainability, permaculture, bio-intensive, Mayan traditional, yoga, dc–solar electricity, water storage and more are covered:
VOLCANO CLIMB
Starting at Ark on Atitlan, it is a four-hour climb to the top of Vulcan San Pedro. This is a longer climb the climb from the north side that douse not start at lake level. The south side climb provides panoramic views of the costal plane and Pacific Ocean as well as rarely seen valleys and ridges. Have lunch at the top and a much quicker hike down for swimming and etc at the Ark. Other hikes available.
SUSTAINABILITY TOUR
From the compost to the beds to the trees to inhabitants and back. A wealth of information in one short morning of visiting examples on six lakeshore acres of sustainable development and nature areas.BYCYCLE TOUR
Four hours of gentle climbs and descents including paths as well as blacktop roads. Starting at the Ark, fincas, lakeshore, coffee forests, large towns, small villages and the foot of the volcano enchant the journey.A four thousand foot drop tour also available from lake level to the coastal plane.
LAKE TOUR BY BOAT
Our twenty five foot shark boat is ideal for safe and comfortable navigation in any weather. Three towns are visited following the lakeshore.LAKE TOUR BY DUG OUT CANOE
Traditional Atitlan cayukos provide unique transportation to Xet tuk, the southernmost tip of the lake. Plenty of floating and some paddling, then lunch in the canoe below the towering southernmost creator wall of the lake, so often shrouded in coastal mists.COFFEE TOUR
